Knitting is the perfect winter time hobby…curl up with some cozy yarn by the fire and make something beautiful!  In this class students will learn the basics of knitting; casting on, knitting, purling, binding off, and decreasing.  This skills will make it possible for you to move into any beginner 2 knitting class you would like.

Whether you have never touched knitting needles or simply need a refresher, this class is guaranteed to advance your knitting skills. Classes will be a combination of actual knitting and lecture/discussion. Topics will include criteria for selecting yarn; reading yarn labels; choosing appropriate needles; knitting with and without patterns; and reviewing terms and abbreviations. Skill levels will determine the knitting segment of the class. Links to legitimate Internet resources will be suggested. Beginners should bring 9" No. 8 straight wooden needles and light colored, worsted weight yarn. If you have some knitting experience, bring your project.​

You will learn about the structure of socks and all the techniques you need to knit your very own socks.....one step at a time. These socks will be top down and you will learn how to use. Another class in Sally’s "simple series" here at the Quilt Tree. Every session she will be teaching a class that you can go right into from Beginning Knitting. This sessions class in the series is Cowls….
Ready to start a project? This is the perfect class for you! This simple cowl is quick to knit and very useful for the chilly weather. In this class you will learn how to work in the round, read a pattern, use stitch markers, and we will discuss blocking your work.  Grab a gorgeous skein of yarn and get started!

Pattern Reading Workshop

K3tbl? Repeat around? Knit even? Reading a knitting pattern can feel like trying to decipher a foreign language at times.  Learn a few tricks of key words to look for and what common terms mean to make your pattern reading easier.  If you have a particular pattern that is tripping you up, bring it with you so we can make sense of it together.

Cabled Headband

Looking to try something new? Cables are fun and much simpler than they look.  In this class we will learn how to work in the round, read a charted pattern, and create basic cables.  The headband can be customized for you by making it taller if you wish.  This would make a great companion piece to a cowl or pair of mittens. 

Baa-bel Hat

The original Baa-bel hat was designed by Donna Smith for Shetland Wool Week 2015. The pattern has been revised for worsted weight yarn with options for colors and yarn combinations. Instructions and a chart will be provided for the revised hat but anyone wishing to knit from the original pattern can order it from Donna’s Ravelry Store and bring it to class with the required materials. The hat is a good introduction to Fair Isle knitting and provides an opportunity to practice stranding. Also learn Double-start cast-on (very stretchy) and Twisted Rib for the cuff to enhance this fun project.
