This is a really cute pattern for a small wall hanging that you will have fun using scraps or fat quarters. You can make a rare white raven (They really do exist!) like the sample, or you can reverse the values and make a dark and more realistic raven. OR, you can choose to really kick it up and use bright, colorful fabrics. Jan will show you her technique for faced applique. You may sew the pieces on the background by hand or machine. Jan will demonstrate both techniques.

Many have requested another Double Wedding so now is the time. This one uses Judy Niemeyer’s foundation-piecing pattern. You can make yours with scalloped borders or, like the sample, add setting triangles and focal fabric for a larger quilt. The pattern is for a small queen size but can be made larger with purchase of additional foundation papers. No prior foundation piecing skills required, Pam will teach that in class along with curved piecing instruction. The DWR template set by Creative Grids is highly recommended.​

Big Stitch Quilting

Big stitch quilting is all the rage in “modern quilts”. What’s old is new again – we used to call it Utility Quilting. Anyway, this method of quilting uses bigger threads, like #8 perle cotton, bigger needles, and BIGGER STITCHES that work up fast. You will work on a practice sample while Jan shows you how to start and stop the thread (no knots!), demonstrate the running stitch and show you various tacking stitches for the background that are sturdy and add interesting dimension to the quilt. Jan will also cover basting and marking quilt tops for handwork, as well as appropriate battings.

Modern Peasant Skirt

In this class you will learn how to make the pattern pieces for this modern version of a peasant skirt and make it to fit your body! You can choose from two versions; a knee length gored skirt, or a longer two-tier gored skirt. In the class samples, Jan used many different Kaffe Fassett fabrics as well as some solids to balance out all that noise. Choose fabrics that reflect your style! When choosing your fabrics, remember, they don't all have to match each other, just be able to play well with their neighbors. Jan will teach you how to draft your pattern and will teach you how to vary the number of gores in the skirts.

The name of this pattern come from the octopus and jellyfish fabrics used by the designer. Pam liked the effect of bargello going in both directions and wanted a different color way. The sample was done in batiks but this pattern would also lend itself to prints and ombres.

Pam would not recommend purchasing a fabric kit, the pieces are typically not large enough to cover the area intended in the pattern. Come try a new kind of fusible applique. These patterns are sort of like sticker books for adults!​
