Monday - February 25 & March 4
6:00pm - 9:00pm
Beginner II*
$50.00
Ever puzzle about why some quilts have that “zing” and others just seem to fall flat? In the first session of this hands-on class, we’ll experiment with layering random shapes on a fusible foundation, exploring principles of color and scale to understand what “works” and why it works while you build a small project from your scrap stash. In the second session, we’ll quilt the pieces, using a combination of free-motion and decorative stitches built into your sewing machine. You will learn about creating a quilting design, techniques for using rayon, metallic, and variegated threads effectively, and couching down heavier materials like yarn and braid. At the end of the class, you will have a nearly-finished project, and new confidence in your color choices and free-motion quilting.
*Pre-requisite: basic free-motion skills. Students should feel comfortable with moving a fat-quarter size piece in all directions with the feed dogs down or covered. Perfect technique not necessary!
