Knit Finishing Classes

The knitting finishing class is a combination knitting technique and sit-and-knit session.  Knitters bring their choice of any number of projects.  Knitting problems and roadblocks are discussed in context using the projects as springboards for discussion.  Typical topics include seam sewing, blocking techniques, fitting, and fixing mistakes.  Regain enthusiasm for those UFOs and turn them into beautiful accomplishments.

Learn to knit a seamless sweater from the top down.  Choose yarn weight of worsted, chunky, or super chunky.  This class is perfect for beginning sweater knitters. Prerequisite skills are cast on, knit, decrease, increase and bind off.  This sweater is knit in the round requiring no seaming.  When you’re done, you’re done!  You can choose adult or children’s size and pull over or cardigan style.

Reversible Cable Scarf

Lilly Chin has done all knitters a favor by popularizing reversible cable knitting.  The scarf is designed so that there is no right or wrong side – the two sides are identical.  This scarf is worked on size 10.5 needles and heavy worsted weight yarn.  A simple cable pattern runs throughout.   The drop stitch technique adds a light, soft appearance.

Aran Sweater Sampler

This class is a response to those of you who have been requesting an Aran sweater class.  Beth Brown-Reinsel wrote the definitive knitting book on this subject in her 1993 classic Knitting Ganseys.  Using this book as a base, we will work our way through the sample sweater.  This little gem teaches all the techniques necessary to knit a full sized gansey.  The next class in this series will be to knit an adult sized Aran sweater.  This is a class for knitting who want to expand their knowledge of traditional knitting styles.

Join our on-going Saturday Sock Club and begin your journey knitting some new and interesting socks. Choose a stitch pattern from the book Sensational Knitted Socks by Charlene Schurch and take off! Choose whatever skill level challenges you. Leave stockinette behind and add some simple, but beautiful stitch patterns to your socks! This is a beginner II class, but you should have knit a sock before. Look for Saturday Sock Club #2 later in the session. Take #1, #2 or both.  If you keep up with these classes through-out the year your repertoire of socks will be quite impressive.

This class is for students who have completed 101 or feel they are a bit “rusty” with their knitting skills. This class will cover a variety of topics including: how to read a pattern, how to substitute yarn, different increases, and others.  The class will also introduce students to cabling, colorwork, and reading charts.  This is a great class for people who want to try more advanced projects but may lack the knitting confidence to do so. Must be able to cast on, bind off, knit, and purl.

Take beginning lace to the next level. This cowl makes for a quick knit but packs tons of punch! Knit from the top down in a climbing vine pattern and then moves to a knitted lace border to complete the cowl. This class covers blocking lace, charts, and knitted borders. Must be able to cast-on, knit, purl, increase, decrease, and cast-off. Having knit some sort of lace previously is preferred.

"The Entrelac Hat"

Demystify Entrelac!  While the end result resembles "basket woven" strips of knitted fabric, the process requires no more knowledge than to knit, purl, and pick-up stitches.  Instead of working one row of stitches after another, you work one row of blocks after another.  Use a self striping yarn and the color changes are done for you!  Let this pattern be your first adventure into entrelac, and have everyone asking..."How did you do that????

This baby sweater features Pea Pod Cables and some exquisite finishing touches with a knitted picot hem and hood complete with curly-q’s. I believe it has the perfect amount of texture and stockinette. This darling sweater could easily become an heirloom. The sizes in the book run large with the largest size coming out to around a 2-3T. Must be able to cast on, knit, purl, increase, decrease, and cast off. Having knit a sweater previously is preferred.
