Learn a classic knitting pattern developed by the most famous American knitter, Elizabeth Zimmerman.  Toni will supply the pattern in class and will guide you through the process of knitting a garter stitch vest which contains beautiful lines and shaping.  Knit in one piece, the vest does not require any seaming.  Techniques emphasized are short row knitting, applied I cord and shaping.  The class will also contain a liberal sprinkling of Elizabeth Zimmerman knitting philosophy which is basically “knitting without tears”.  No angst will be allowed!

Hats On! By Charlene Schurch is a favorite book of many experienced hat knitters.   The book contains basic patterns for most common shapes of hats.  There are hats using Fair Isle stranding, cables, charts, graphs and a variety of yarn weights.  Knitters can choose whatever hat pattern they want to knit in class and practice whatever technique they want to learn.  Hats will be knit on circular needles.  Toni will emphasize basic hat structure, sizing and tips for hat-knitting success.

The knitting finishing class has evolved into a combination knitting technique and sit-and-knit sessions.  Knitters bring whatever projects they want and as many projects as they want.  We solve specific problems as they present themselves.  Topics typically discussed include casting on and binding off, buttonholes, mattress stitch seams, set in sleeves, picking up stitches, and three needle bind offs.  Handouts and tips are provided throughout the session.  Regain enthusiasm for UFO’s and get them finished.

Socks are Cleary’s favorite things to knit.  Everyone wears socks.  Any pair knit will fit someone.  You can use any weight yarn and they are quick to knit – by the time you’re bored, you’ve done a pair.  Also socks include so many techniques like increases and decreases and knitting in the round and short-rowing and the kitchner stitch.  If you’ve made a scarf or hat you can make a sock.
