FINISHING CLASS
Toni McDermott
Monday May 12, June 9 & 30
6:30pm – 8:30pm
All Levels
$35.00
The knitting finishing class has evolved into a combination
knitting technique and sit-and-knit sessions. Knitters bring
whatever projects they want and as many projects as they
want. We solve specific problems as they present themselves.
Topics typically discussed include casting on and binding
off, buttonholes, mattress stitch seams, set in sleeves,
picking up stitches, and three needle bind offs. We solve
specific problems presented by the projects students bring
in. The goal is to gain momentum and finish the project(s)
you’ve been wanting to complete.
SMOOTH SOCKS
FROM THE TOE UP
Toni McDermott
Monday May 19 & June 2
6:30pm – 8:30pm
Beginner II (must have successfully completed at least one
pair of socks)
$30.00
Knitters often come in to The Quilt Tree and want to knit
socks like the ones on display – socks that look and
fit like “store bought” socks. The class will
teach the skills needed to make such socks which are typically
knit beginning at the toe. Toni will explain and demonstrate
short row heel and toe techniques and other skills which
lead to an improvement in the quality of knitted socks.
Toe up socks are worked on a set of double pointed needles,
one sock at a time.
2-AT-A-TIME-SOCKS
Toni McDermott
Tuesday May 27, June 3 & 17
6:30pm – 8:30pm
Beginner II (must have successfully completed at least one
pair of socks)
$35.00
Several new methods of sock construction are popular. One
of them is knitting both socks simultaneously on one circular
needle that is at least 40” long. This class will
teach this technique. Knitters can choose from any pattern
in the book 2-at-a-Time-Socks by Melissa Morgan-Oakes. There
are patterns for the newer as well as the more experienced
sock knitter and patterns using different yarns with different
gauges.
COLORFUL HAT
Toni McDermott
Sunday May 25 & June 1 & 8
12:30pm – 2:30pm
Beginner II
$35.00
This cute hat can be knitted using several different yarns
for summer or winter wear. Use Cotton Clip yarn, Cotton
Fleece or Lamb’s Pride worsted weight wool yarn. Toni
will emphasize knitting in the round (no previous experience
necessary) and in seeing a range of color choices and combinations
which produce delightful results. This is an excellent next
class for those knitters who have completed the beginning
knitting class and are looking for projects within their
skill level.
