Hats On! By Charlene Schurch is a favorite book of many experienced hat knitters. The book contains basic patterns for most common shapes of hats. There are hats using Fair Isle stranding, cables, charts, graphs and a variety of yarn weights. Knitters can choose whatever hat pattern they want to knit in class and practice whatever technique they want to learn. Hats will be knit on circular needles. Toni will emphasize basic hat structure, sizing and tips for hat-knitting success.

The knitting finishing class has evolved into a combination knitting technique and sit-and-knit sessions. Knitters bring whatever projects they want and as many projects as they want. We solve specific problems as they present themselves. Topics typically discussed include casting on and binding off, buttonholes, mattress stitch seams, set in sleeves, picking up stitches, and three needle bind offs. Handouts and tips are provided throughout the session. Regain enthusiasm for UFO’s and get them finished.

Socks are Cleary’s favorite things to knit. Everyone wears socks. Any pair knit will fit someone. You can use any weight yarn and they are quick to knit – by the time you’re bored, you’ve done a pair. Also socks include so many techniques like increases and decreases and knitting in the round and short-rowing and the kitchner stitch. If you’ve made a scarf or hat you can make a sock.
LACE SMOKE RING

Learn how to knit a lace smoke ring using a traditional pattern. Ring will be worked on circular needles with fingering weight yarn. In addition to a written pattern, Toni will provide a chart and explain how to use it efficiently. Although students need some knitting experience, they do not need experience in knitting lace.

Every year numerous knitters come into the store in search of Christmas stocking patterns. Toni has found a colorful, simple pattern that yields wonderful Christmas stockings. Stockings can be knit out of worsted weight yarn such as Cascade 220, Brown Sheep or Brown Sheep Cotton Fleece. The stockings are not felted. It is not necessary to know how to knit socks in order to take the class. The stockings are intended to be decorative and don’t need to fit an actual foot. Toe and heel elements are simplified and easy to work.

This is the perfect class for those who have done a scarf or hat and want to try a real sweater. You will learn how to:

The sweater is a CHILD’S sweater but don’t be put off if you don’t have a youngster in mind. This project uses only 3-4 skeins of yarn and works up quickly so you really can complete it in a month. The skills you learn will help you feel confident to then try an adult project.

During the spring a knitter asked if we were having summer camp. What a good idea! Let’s go t camp on socks. Bring examples of socks you have knit and discuss their pros and cons. If there is a type of sock you want to try but have been reluctant to start, this is your chance. We will work on socks for three sessions fielding questions and problems as they occur. This is a chance to expand your sock repertoire and improve your sock fitting and knitting technique.
